Turbopomp Engineer (m/f/d)
Job Description
As a turbopump engineer, you will be responsible for the design, analysis, and optimization of turbopump systems used in high-thrust rocket engines. You will ensure these components meet stringent performance, reliability, and safety standards under extreme operating conditions. Your role will involve collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the turbopump integrates seamlessly with the overall propulsion system.
Responsibilities
Tasks and missions
Design and development: develop high-performance turbopump systems, including the pump, turbine, and rotating assemblies. Optimize designs for efficiency, weight, and robustness while considering thermal and mechanical loads.
Simulation and analysis: perform detailed computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA) to assess fluid and structural behavior. Ensure designs are validated against performance criteria and safety margins.
Testing and validation: plan and oversee turbopump test campaigns, analyzing results to validate performance and identify areas for improvement. Implement design modifications based on test feedback.
Documentation and compliance: create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and validation plans. Ensure compliance with industry and safety regulations.
Preferred experience and skills
Engineering degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field with a focus on turbomachinery.
Technical skills:
- Experience in turbopump design and analysis, preferably within the aerospace or high-performance machinery sector.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g., Siemens NX, CATIA) and simulation tools (e.g., StarCCM, Simcenter, ANSYS, Abaqus, CFD software).
- Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, rotor dynamics, thermodynamics, and structural mechanics.
- Familiarity with high-speed rotating machinery and associated challenges, such as vibration and heat management.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes for precision turbomachinery components and quality assurance practices.
Behavioral skills:
- Attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving and design validation.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
- Enthusiasm for innovation and a proactive approach to staying current with industry advancements and best practices.
